If We Had No Moon 如果沒有月亮

中秋節可以沒有月餅、沒有燈籠，但萬萬不可沒有月亮。月亮不僅在中秋節供人觀賞，提供光線，在黑夜照明，最重要是月亮減慢了地球的旋轉速度。要不然，一天白天可能只有四小時，火災、海嘯、山崩地裂，隨處可見。月亮是最靠近地球的星體，由於地球的轉速受到月亮控制而減慢，同時月亮也因地球的轉速減慢而逐漸脫離地球，使雙方距離越來越遠。故此現時仰天觀月，月亮也較千萬年前細小得多。如果一日月球撤底遠離地球，地球會變成點？地球當年在沒有月亮的情況下又是何模樣？到底月亮還有什麼神秘力量？ 裡面真的住了嫦娥和后羿嗎？

Without the moon, we wouldn't exsist. Life, if it had started at all, would be in the earliest stages of evolution. Days would last four hours, winds would blow at hurricane-force and there'd be a dense and toxic atmosphere resembling the runaway greenhouse effect of hell-like venus. What luck that 50 million years after the formation of the solar system, our proto-planet is smacked by a planetismal more than twice the size of Mars. From that mother-of-all impacts is born the Moon. It is born in less than a year from debris blasted into orbit - an enormous object in the sky, just 14 thousand miles away, 17 times closer than today. What was the earth like before this? What would the earth be like if the moon went away? What would it be like, "If We Had No Moon?"
