Dear Star Lovers,
I don't know how many of you went out to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower this year but I did.
We went out on 12th morning just 24 hours before predicted maxima. We started our watching at 00:38 a.m. and stopped at 05:02 a.m. During thetime there was an unexpected rain showering for half an hour. After the shower the sky cleared again and we tranfered our site from Astropark to East Dam using another half hour. So we spent totally around 3.5 hours in watching.
The weather on 12th morning was really good, extremely transpanerent sky appeared after the shower and the winter milky way was very sharp above East Dam. Fortunately at about 4 a.m. most people left, probably due to heavy rainfall. Sometimes rain could be helpful.
Altogether we caught 132 meteors, averaging a ZHR of about 38, really not bad. If the morning of 13th was just as fine, we might expect the ZHR doubled.
It was a fine experience to watch meteor shower, especially under the milky way in serenity at East Dam. Next year see you there, and, hopefully a heavy rain shower just like will wash away most of pople out there.
Best regards
Chan Yuk Lun
