20 inch telescope in New Zealand - 1 getting started
Dear Star Lovers,
It finally happens. We will start our journey soon.
2 telescopes will come along - the 20 incher for high power deep sky observing and a 4 inch f/3.5 RFT for wide angle viewing , specially tailored for Large and Small Magellic Clouds.
Of course we don't just see stars. In order to raise the performance/price ratio we will do a lot of site seeing. Please stay tuned.
Best regards

No problem for wooden bearing of the 20 incher?Chanlunlun 寫:Dear Star Lovers,

Is the 4 inch f/3.5 RFT a DIY telescope? Is it very handy to carry?
Finally, wish you and the members have a successful and enjoyable trip.

We spend two nights inside the Aoraki Mackenzie dark sky Reserve area inside NewZealand. Around Mountian Cook area you really didn't see any artificial lights around.
The sky was cloudless, very transparent and very dark, so dark that you could easily see your shadow marked by the light from the Milky Way above head. The milky way
is really bright, only when you are situated inside a truly dark environment.
One more thing - don't let your eye placed around the focus of a big telescope. the focused star light will blind your eye in such real dark environment.
It was strange that in such "dark" environment you started to feel so bright around - the whole landscape was lit up by the milky way and star light.
