Autoguiding may not be necessary

文章 LT » 週一 11 5月, 2020 22:40

If the PE value is low enough, autoguiding may not be necessary for some cameras, even photographic focal length > 1000mm

Below is an image I took at my mother's home in 2015 with Vixen VC200L + reducer + LPS + 6D @1280mm F6.4
7x120s @iso3200, unguided with Vixen AXD mount.

The PE of Vixen AXD mount was claimed to be +-3.5" at best. AXD-2 is the upgraded version of AXD with a PE value of +-2.8", about 20% lower than AXD's. So, if dithering is not necessary to you for improving the quality of stacked image and you have a fast telescope of focal length no more than 1000mm, you can consider a mount of low PE value to enjoy the simplicity of gear set up for your astrophotography.
