I also saw C8 OTA.

After watching so much Subaru's amazing photos, C-5 is already in my purchase list.

But Mr. Kwan just told me the Celestron CM130, 130mm Mak. It is much cheaper than C-5. I am now making decision.

Just from the outlook, I like C-5. But the price of CM130 is hard to beat. CM130 is a bit too long for me, but actually my main purpose is for the planets and the moon.

Reviews from cloudynights said that it is not as good as Orion Apex 127, and C-5, under certain review, is also behind Orion Apex 127. I am puzzled as Maks are in general better than Schmidt-Cass.

CM130 is a bit heavier than C-5 (something near 9lb, and I found it is the heavier than Meade ETX125 and Apex127). ETX125 is not as good as C5 in a review by S&T as it has a shielding cone at the secondary which makes the central obstruction pretty close to 40%

Dear Mr. Wingwsw,

This C8 belongs to me now. I spent HKD1700 to buy it from Ap Liu Street. I can answer your question after having examined it.

1. It has a motor and indeed it tracks the stars very well.

2. The serial number indicates that it was manufactured inthe year 1981 ( 23 years ago! )

3. I have cleaned the corrector with soap water and after then the coating appearss perfect, there is no need to re-coat it. I've also clean teh primary and secondary mirror by soap, they now look just like brand new.

4. This old C-8 is already in equatorial mount, it can perform all duties like astrophotograhy both planetary and deep sky no problem. Of course old design like this does not equipped with a polartelescope, but precise precise alignment can be achieved by drifting method as well.

The optical quality of this old C8 is just marvolous. It cannot be distinguished from a brand new C8.

I'm just being interested where do you get those photos!

Haa!

With Mr. Chan's unique (in HongKong) silvering technique, the primary and secondary mirror will soon equip with stronger reflective coating and beat the existing UHTC

And the mirror are not directly exposed to the air these coating may last a relatively long time.
