Dear Star Lovers,

The sky there last night was indeed excellent. We saw the iwnter milky way down to the horizon around regions of Puppis and Vela.

Of course, the holy grail of this trip - the Horeshead nebula - was also seen. Inside the 20 inch telescope, with the Ethos 13 mm eyepiece, we saw a blood red color of IC434 ( very red indeed, I didn't know why we saw color, but we all saw it ) and once we saw IC434 we saw a dark bulge rising against this blood red background - the holy Horsehead.

The smaller 12 inch also saw it. We concluded that in order to see the Horsehead aperture was not the main foctor - but the sky. I saw the horsehaed 13 years ago at the same place, and I saw it agin last night.

The Horsehead didn't appear in XingLong nor in Yina Mt. But the Horsehead does appear here. A proof that Komeko is indeed a class higher than XingLong and Yina. I don't know how good Mauna Kea is because I've never been to there. But Komeko should be close.

Will detail report to you ASAP.

Dear SYYuen,

We tested the scope last night under very good sky but found the following problems :-

1. it is extremely hard to collimate the optic and hence difficult to tell what class it is at the moment.

2. it seemed that the carbon fibre tube did not hold the collimation well. Exchange of eyepiece altered the optical alignment easily.

3. light leaking problem still needed to be addressed.

4. too low eyepiece height making observation tedious.

But we did find advantages however :-

1. it is indeed truely very protable.

2. it has a high-tech appearence.

3. it truely is a good light collector. At least we saw the Horsehead Nebula with it.

We are still trying to discover its potentials. Stay tuned.
