AAVSO Special Notice #407

Blazar S5 1803+78 active

AAVSO observer Adolfo Darriba Martinez y Oscar Ortu–o (DAM,
Observatorio Las Casqueras, Madrid, Spain) reports that the blazar
S5 1803+78 has brightened significantly.

S5 1803+78, which is magnitude 16-17 V at minimum, is currently
magnitude 14.237 V (LPAB, P. Lampens-Vancauteren (Ukkel, Belgium).

Previous outbursts are recorded in the AAVSO International Database
in November 2007, February 2012, and September 2014.

Photometric and visual observations of S5 1803+78 are encouraged.
Recent observations reported to the AAVSO include:

Finder charts with a sequence for S5 1803+78 may be created using
the AAVSO Variable Star Plotter (VSP, https://www.aavso.org/vsp).
Request an 'E' scale (30 arcminutes) or smaller field-of-view chart
to see the sequence on the chart. The photometry table for this
field may also be obtained via VSP.

Please report observations to the AAVSO International Database using
the name S5 1803+78.
