Dear Mr. Patshek,

End of this month I will be going to Taiwan (middle and south) for both stargazing and tourist.
I would like to answer you some comment regarding accomodation and transportation soon. Could you help?

If you want stargazing at 合歡山, the best way is to rent a car and drive it yourself. However, if you are like me, no driving license and want to have a tour also. You can plan your trip like mine, stay 1 night at 清境民宿(黃慶果園 is quite good), and stay 1 night at 合歡山莊. You can ask 民宿 to take you there, but the fare is not cheap. From 黃慶果園 to 合歡山莊, they charged me NT$600 round trip per person, but they are really kind and helpful.

For the transportation, you can go to 清境 from 埔里 by buses. If you start your trip from 台北/高雄, there is bus that can take you directly to 清境

For the accomodation, 合歡山莊 is 榻榻米, not comfortable at all, but that place is really dark, and suitable for stargazing. Besides, it is a place for hiking, most of the people going there is for hiking, instead of stargazing. You can book 合歡山莊 through the internet.

我無住過合歡山莊，但我記得"合歡山莊"在3000m以上，空氣都幾稀薄。所以無乜人在這個高度睇星。尤其係香港人，無去過咁高的地方，一去到會好唔習慣。如果遇著低氣壓，十步之內一定"扯蝦"。

我覺得都係去2000m的清境住1-2晚，習慣一下高山的空氣才再上山。
