Thanks all.
My calculation for this image was - since it is a dim object, it needs extended time for each sub and so I ended up with 8 min. at f/3.3 to ensure enough photons are being collected. Next I found the CLS filter is very efficient in cutting off the sky background even in this exposure time (otherwise the gradient caused by light pollution is very difficult to tackle when stretched, even with LPS-P2) and more importantly it allows the red light form nebulae (to me even a bit too much off the balance!) to pass through and thus I guess the contrast should be enough. So this could have been my "formula" for dim red objects.
My 2 cents.
