Dear Chan Sir,
I think the video has lots of inaccuracies and errors, but I do think air pollution is a big problem to Chinese urban residents.
I'm not that sure if people's general health is irrelevant to the pollutants in the air, as some experts say, but I do feel irritated throat each time I visit Guang Zhou.

Yes we may be destroying our environment but no in such a degree that we will soon kill our planet. Earth is still in good shape. It;s a pity that mass media always exaggerates in order to attract eyeballs.lightning 寫:!點解又改咗完全相反嘅意思?

Take Peking for example, the so called "smog" may not all entirely originate from air pollution. Actually quite a part of "smog" comes from water vapor in air and tiny sand particles blowing in from northern deserts. They are part of the nature.
Of course pollution plays a part, but not as a terrible part as some movie/media said.
While dust storms can intensify smog, a dust storm on its own can never cause smog. We have a lot of Saharan dust storms in northern Africa but no smog. However, when the Saharan dust storms reach cities in southern Europe, they can make things worse because they provide surfaces for the certain pollutants to be decompose by sunlight into something more nasty.
Smog is basically formed when local air pollutants cannot be disbursed to the upper atmosphere because of an inversion layer. Pollutants combinded with water to form a mists of harmful solutions which affect our respiratory system. Such harmful effect is much more serious than the effect of dust storms or fog (water droplets only) alone.

I had been to Northern Sahara ( Tunisia to be precise) for a 10 days trip few years ago. The transparency of sky was very poor. It rather looks like "smog" in Peking.鄧登凳 寫:While dust storms can intensify smog, a dust storm on its own can never cause smog. We have a lot of Saharan dust storms in northern Africa but no smog. Tunisia has not much pollution but they still have rather heavy "smog" or something very like "smog". So "smog" may not necessarily originated from air pollution.
The same happened in XingLong. The first time when I was there I saw very heavy "smog". The transparency of air was so poor that scenery few km away just vanished. But at night I saw one of the most wonderful starry sky ever.

I haven't been to Beijing but I'm not sure whether we should believe to the tv news and the offical meterological reports as we have seen so many photos and videos from the news.
Anyway, it is still sure that air pollution and global climatical change does happening on our planet ,and they are caused by human activities although there are some wrong concepts between duststorm and smog have made by the movie creator.
