Making of 16 inch PTC telescope - 4, Polishing finished.

Dear ATMers,

Today was an extreme busy day for me. After spending long time pouring the pitch lap ( it is not at all easy to pour a 16 inch full size pitch lap ) the polishing of the mirror was started right away.

In order to save time I managed to get a full polish of the mirror within the same day. After 6 working hour the mirror got 99% polished. Under examination by an 12 mm eyepiece there were still some small pit sparsely populated at central portion of the mirror. They presented no problem of course, for the remaining figuring and parabolization stage will get these pits polished out at the same time.

The mirror had not been tested yet. It was unfortunate that when the polishing was done it was already late in the evening and the laboratory was closed. Testing of mirror will be done on tomorrow morning.

Hopefully the profile of the mirror will not be too terrible.

Yes indeed.

A well polished mirror always looks pretty but don't be deceived by appearance. We must put the mirror into test before we are sure whether it's good or not.

Dear Boss,

I just bought the glass disck from a shop in MongKok. The glass disk was cheap - only ay a cost of HKD 480. The glass is just conventional float glass.
