1 kg of silver nitrate

Dear ATMs,

How much does it cost for 1 kg of silver nitrate in HK ?

The answer is HKD 1600. We have just bought 1 kg of this expensive stuff, together with 2.5 litres of ammonia solution and 500 g of potassium hydroxide. They arrive today.

Such quantities are sufficient for making Tollen's reagent to recoat the 24 inch mirror 9 times, so that we don't need to worry for the next few years.

In case you are interested in the cost of other chemical stuffs :-

2.5 L of ammnoia solution ( S.G. 0.91) HKD 75
500 g of KOH solid HKD 50

Now you could see that silver nitrate is super expensive. However it is still much cheaper to coat the mirror with silver than that with aluminium, considering the case of our 24 inch mirror.
