Dear ATMs,
Although the 30 inch telescope was officially declared completed we still need to carry out a whole series of testing and debugging. One of the most important task is to verify its portability.
No wonder the biggest component of the whole telescope is the primary mirror itself. Hence we began our test at the mirror. We made a wooden box to house the mirror for transportation and the whole assembly must be capable of putting into the back seat of a taxi by two and only two men.
We had borrowed a car for the test. Two students tried to hold and take the 30 inch mirror assembly into the back seat of car and…. they made it. This proved that the mirror could be easily carried by a taxi.
Now you could see - we are quite serious about our telescope.
Best regards

- We made it. The whole mirror assembly has been put in the back seat of a small car.

- The mirror assembly is not that heavy – one student is able to take it up from ground ans transport it into the car.

- The single biggest component – the mirror and its cell packed inside a custom made wooden box.

Dear ATMs,
I think we have made a very big mistake !!!
The biggest single component is not the mirror itself, but is the base plate. having a diameter of 45 inches, it is big enough to prohibit us carrying it into MTR or a taxi.
So we have to hurry up to re-engineer the base structure to shrink its size before we are able to make it to Water Mouth.
Best regards

- The oversized circular base plate. Compare it to the 14 inch Newtonian in the background.

It might not be a mistake, but something being discovered during the testing phase.Chanlunlun 寫:Dear ATMs,

Thanks for your comforting.
However for anything that is practically non-applicable we might call it an engineering mistake. So we have made a mistake.
At themoment we aretrying very hard to remake the azimuth bearing structure to restore all electrical slewing/slow motion function but not sacrificing too much stability at the same time.
